Russell Professional Group was founded by Dr Jon Russell in Victoria in 1992. With twenty years experience as an academic (at the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California, and La Trobe University in Melbourne) Dr Russell conducted research into work demands and psychological discord in the workplace. He moved into full-time consulting after pioneering a highly successful early intervention program to manage stress-related injuries within Victoria Police which was later extended to other Victoria Government departments.
In 2003, as part of the Queensland Government’s Safer Workplaces initiative, Dr Russell was invited to implement his early intervention program in Queensland, and Russell Professional Group Queensland was established. Since that time, we have continued to be a preferred provider to the Queensland public sector for early intervention and HR consulting services – including employee counselling, intensive case management for individuals with a psychological injury, management coaching, mediation, and team and workplace assessments.
Dr Russell left Australia in 2007 to return to the United States and is fondly remembered for establishing the company. The Queensland arm of the business was taken over by Lorraine Stokes, who joined the company in 2005. Lorraine attributes some of her ‘street smarts’ to her background as a champion pool player. She put her pool cue down in 1980 to commence an extended career with Telecom. After experiencing several major organisational restructures, she left Telstra with a strong desire to help individuals and organisations to manage the challenges of change. Lorraine gained mature-age entry to Griffith University in 1997 and was awarded the Behavioural Science Medal in 2000 and the Psychology Medal in 2001. She is currently nearing completion of a doctorate that has involved indepth study of large-scale organisational change within a Queensland hospital.
